MINOT, N.D. — The North Dakota Air National Guard recently named Airmen Staff Sgt. Jessica Harper and Staff Sgt. Sarah Harper, as Family of the Year during a ceremony at Minot Air Force Base on July 17.

Both Airmen are assigned to the 219th Security Forces Squadron. Serving with active duty U.S. Air Force units at Minot Air Force Base, this squadron is a part of the Fargo-based 119th Wing, nicknamed the “Happy Hooligans”. The Harpers earned this recognition for their volunteer and morale-building efforts within the 219th Security Forces Squadron over the past year, as well as their contributions within the local community. Both are involved in fund raising for animal rescue and serve as volunteer coaches for area youth sports.

“Both of these Airmen had such a positive impact on our squadron through their efforts planning and coordinating memorable events for unit members,” said Maj. Greg Goodman, 219th Security Forces Squadron commander. “They’re also so actively involved in the community, volunteering as coaches, organizing fundraisers and delivering meals in their off-duty time.”

Staff Sgt. Sarah Harper has been a full-time active Guard Reserve (AGR) member of the unit since 2015. Staff Sgt. Jessica Harper, a member of the Minot Police Department, recently joined the unit as a drill status member last March.

“We’re really proud to recognize these non-commissioned officers as our Family of the Year,” said Chief Master Sgt. Jeff Miller, North Dakota Air National Guard state command chief, who presented the award. “Families like the Harpers who volunteer their valuable time to serve and improve their units and their communities deserve to be singled out and formally thanked for their efforts.”
