MOA Signing at NHSC

BISMARCK, N.D. — The N.D. National Guard and the Nueta Hidasta Sahnish College (NHSC), New Town, N.D., are pleased to announce that NHSC students who are members of the N.D. National Guard, are eligible for state tuition assistance.

Brig. Gen. Jackie Huber, N.D. deputy adjutant general, and Dr. Twyla Baker, president, NHSC signed a formal memorandum of agreement to that effect on Feb. 16, at the college.

"I look forward to this partnership and making higher education more accessible for those who serve,” said Dr. Baker. “It's a great opportunity, and I am thankful to our National Guard partners for their work in this effort. I'm so glad it's something we can do for our students, our community, and our state."

With this agreement, NHSC became the fifth and final Tribal College within North Dakota to allow students to qualify for state tuition assistance. The other colleges are Cankdeska Cikana Community College, Fort Totten; Sitting Bull College, Fort Yates; Turtle Mountain Community College, Belcourt; and United Tribes Technical College, Bismarck.

“We’re extremely pleased that our Guard Soldiers and Airmen who attend one of the state’s Tribal Colleges are now able to get assistance with their tuition like students of other colleges and universities within North Dakota,” said Brig. Gen. Huber. “I’m grateful to Dr. Baker and all of the other Tribal College presidents that agree this is a great benefit to their students who choose to serve in the N.D. National Guard.”

The N.D. Guard’s state tuition assistance program provides tuition assistance to over 400 Soldiers and Airmen per semester and is one of the organization’s most sought-after benefits for initial enlistees. Previously, this tuition assistance has only been available for N.D. Guard members attending public and private colleges and universities within the state.  In 2019 an effort began to also include the Tribal Colleges.
